And that we did! We have been celebrating Walker's first birthday since Thursday - and we have loved every minute of the fun!
On Thursday, I took cookies to Walker's preschool class. He was thrilled to see me at snack time and loved us singing happy birthday to him!
Thursday afternoon was our rotation for playgroup, which worked out perfectly. We had a birthday playgroup with cookies, cupcakes, and of course, kisses!
Friday morning Ben and I woke up singing to our baby. We did the 1 year photo shoot (see previous post) and I took Walker to baby yoga. We had cookies (again) and sang happy birthday. He smiled as everyone sang to him. No pictures of this.
Friday night, we went to a local Mexican restaurant - the same one our families went to the night of Walker's birth - and came back to our house for a cupcake. Walker smiled for one picture in his hat that I worked hard on. He didn't want to wear it again. We sang happy birthday and he devoured his cupcake in two bites.
It was a fun evening! Saturday we did our professional 1 year pictures and Walker was a little off. He had a low grade temp, but I wasn't concerned. He became more fussy during dinner and I took his temp 103.3. Now there is a number that I was concerned about. No other symptoms so the peds told me to just treat with motrin/tylenol. We decided not to cancel his party...he was fever free on Sunday for his party!
So, onto his elephant themed first birthday party! We had family and a few close friends (his best buddy Charlie decided to stay home in case Walker was contagious - we will celebrate later with Charlie).
Aunt Sissy came early to offer her always helpful extra hand...
A pre-party pic with our baby boy!
Party details before guests arrived...
Charlie let us borrow his birthday banner...(thanks Meredith!)
Banner of all the "month photo shoot" pictures...so neat to see the changes of our baby over the year!
Once guests arrived and settled in, we sang happy birthday and gave Walker his cake.
He wanted nothing to do with his cake. Nothing. He shook his head, turned from it, wimpered, did not want the cake. Oh well - very anticlimatic!
He opened presents and loved playing with his new toys.
Walker had a great time hanging out with family and friends...
We tried again with the cake...
He was much happier with his toys (including a wagon - yay!) and friends...
We have had a blast celebrating the first year and all agree that turning one is fun!
Happy Birthday, love!
Happy Birthday Walker! Love the party decor and the elephant theme:) Too funny about the smash cake! Love the last pic...he looks so happy, like always.
